Can I drive with a standard driver's license?
Yes — every vehicle can be driven with a standard license. No special qualification is required. Even the Cresson Journey is sized to fit standard parking spaces, at 208cm wide and 499cm long. Overseas visitors need an International Driving Permit (or the official Japanese translation of your licence, for Taiwan).
I'm nervous about driving a large vehicle. Will I be OK?
Hokkaido's roads are wide with lots of straightaways, so if you're used to driving a minivan, you'll have no trouble. We'll walk you through the driving tips in a 10–15 minute briefing before you set off. If you're still unsure, we recommend the Euro Box, at just 4.25m long.
Is there a toilet or shower on board?
No, there is no toilet or shower inside the vehicles. Hokkaido has plenty of roadside rest stops (michi-no-eki) and hot spring facilities, and our Travel Support team will suggest bathing spots that fit your itinerary.
Can I drive in winter? What about heating?
Every vehicle comes with 4WD and winter tires. Most vehicles are equipped with an FF heater, so you can keep the interior warm even with the engine off (availability varies by model — please check each vehicle's equipment list for details). We give the heating systems extra attention during winter maintenance.
Where can I park and sleep?
You can use roadside rest stops (michi-no-eki), RV parks, and campgrounds. Our Travel Support team will suggest specific locations. Please avoid areas where parking or overnight stays are prohibited.
Will I have enough power? Is it OK for multiple nights in a row?
Our vehicles use a dual power system — driving charge plus solar charge. Simply driving recharges the battery, which suits Hokkaido's long-distance trips well. On sunny days, solar alone adds roughly 5–8% charge per hour (varies with weather, sunlight, and driving time). If you'll be running the air conditioner for long periods, we recommend using external power.
Can I bring my pet?
Three models welcome pets on board: Cresson Journey Type W (multi-room layout), Hiace LEAD, and Euro Box. Pets must stay in a carrier inside the vehicle. A dedicated mat is provided with the pet passenger option (¥3,000 per trip).
Is there an airport shuttle? Can I leave my own car there?
Our rental office is 10 minutes by car from New Chitose Airport and 15 minutes from Tokachi-Obihiro Airport, and the shuttle is free. You can also leave your own car at the office, and we offer shuttle service from Minami-Chitose Station as well.
Is there a mileage limit?
We use 300km per day as a guideline, set for both safety and trip satisfaction. If you exceed it, an additional ¥110 (tax included) per km applies.
How do I handle refueling?
Please return the vehicle with a full tank. The Cresson Journey runs on diesel; all other vehicles use regular gasoline. Late-night gas stations are scarce in Hokkaido, so we recommend refueling early.
Are there cancellation fees?
From 24:00, 7 days before pickup: 30% / From 24:00, 5 days before: 50% / From 24:00, 2 days before: 100% / Same-day cancellation or no-show: 100%.
Is it OK to travel with children?
Yes. We provide child seats and booster seats for rent. Since nursing, changing, and resting can all be done inside the vehicle, our campers are especially popular with families traveling with young children.
