Which RV Parks Near Obihiro-Tokachi Are Open in Winter, and How Far From the Airport?

There are zero RV parks within Obihiro city itself. Widening the search to the whole Tokachi region turns up 5 facilities. Of these, only two confirm on their official websites that they operate through winter: RV Park Tokachi Wakka no Mori (Shimizu Town) and Moving Inn Tokachi Kitanomori (Taiki Town). RV Park HERON Tokachi Urahoro (Urahoro Town, opened June 2026) states on its official site that “winter use is available,” but whether power hookups stay usable in winter is unconfirmed.

A comparison of pricing and facilities across the 4 certified RV parks in Obihiro-Tokachi is in our Obihiro-Tokachi RV Park article. This article focuses only on two things: whether each site is open in winter, and how far it is from the airport.

For the remaining 2 facilities (Tokachigawa Onsen Sasai Hotel and Tokachi Makiba no Ie), we could not determine winter operating status from their official websites. This article organizes the winter operation, power, and restroom status of all 5 facilities, alongside measured distances from Tokachi-Obihiro Airport. Distances are measured road distances via OSRM, not straight-line distances.

5 RV Parks in Obihiro-Tokachi and Their Winter Operating Status

Here are all 5 facilities in one table. The “Winter Operation” column is split by whether the official website mentions winter status: “Confirmed” means the site explicitly states year-round operation or winter availability, and “Unconfirmed” means the official site had no information on winter operation.

The 2 Facilities Confirmed Open in Winter

Of the table above, only these 2 facilities confirm winter operation in their own official wording. Here are the details.

RV Park Tokachi Wakka no Mori (Shimizu Town)

The official site states “available year-round.” Powered sites are also usable year-round, and the restroom is a heated flush toilet year-round with hot water available. It is 35.3km from the airport, approximately 45 minutes. Whether winter rates differ from regular rates could not be confirmed from the official site.

Moving Inn Tokachi Kitanomori (Taiki Town)

Kurumatabi.com’s facility page lists it as “year-round” (there is a separate facility-wide note on irregular closures). Power is free, 20A, and generator use is also allowed. Restrooms are available 24 hours on-site, with one Western-style, flush, heated-seat toilet per site. It is 44.3km from the airport, approximately 52 minutes.

Facilities at Moving Inn Kitanomori are also detailed in our Moving Inn Kitanomori glamping article.

The 3 Facilities With Unconfirmed Winter Operation

For the remaining 3 facilities, winter operating status could not be confirmed from what is publicly available on their official sites. We recommend contacting each facility directly before booking.

RV Park HERON Tokachi Urahoro (Urahoro Town)

This facility opened in June 2026. The official site clearly states “winter use is available,” with no mention of winter closure. Restrooms feature a heated washlet, and the shower room and laundry/dryer are free. However, we could not find any text about power hookups on the official page. Whether power is usable in winter needs to be confirmed with the facility at the time of booking. It is 51.3km from the airport, approximately 53 minutes.

Tokachigawa Onsen Sasai Hotel (Yu-You Park, Otofuke Town)

Kurumatabi.com’s facility page uses the term “year-round,” but does not state whether power, restrooms, and water are actually operational in winter. It is membership-based with phone reservations only, so confirming by phone is essential if you’re considering winter use. It is 33.9km from the airport, approximately 38 minutes — the closest of the 5 facilities.

Tokachi Makiba no Ie (Ikeda Town)

The top page describes it as “Tokachi’s first RV park,” but we could not find a dedicated page covering pricing, facilities, or winter operation. It is primarily a winery lodging facility, with the RV park positioned as a secondary feature. It is 41.5km from the airport, approximately 46 minutes. If considering winter use, please contact the facility directly.

Distances From the Airport to Each Facility and Winter Destinations

Tokachi’s classic winter destinations — Lake Shikaribetsu, Sahoro, Nukabira — are all clustered around an hour’s drive from the airport. Here are the measured distances from Tokachi-Obihiro Airport (OSRM, road distance):

Winter DestinationDistance From AirportTime Required
Tokachigawa Onsen (Otofuke Town)35.1kmapprox. 40 min
Lake Shikaribetsu Kotan (Shikaoi Town)57.0kmapprox. 53 min
Nukabira Onsen (Kamishihoro Town)62.5kmapprox. 55 min
MUSHING WORKS Dog Sledding (Shikaoi Town)64.9kmapprox. 59 min
Sahoro Resort (Shintoku Town)69.4kmapprox. 60 min

Tokachigawa Onsen is the shortest winter destination from either the airport or any of the RV parks, and Sasai Hotel is also located in the same town, Otofuke. Lake Shikaribetsu Kotan, MUSHING WORKS, and Sahoro are close to each other in Shikaoi and Shintoku towns, making them easy to loop through on a day trip. For dog sledding, a night dog-sledding tour is officially offered by a partnership between MUSHING WORKS and Moving Inn, which runs this site (late January to early March 2027, first-come first-served). Tokachi’s winter activities — Lake Shikaribetsu Kotan, jewelry ice, smelt fishing at Lake Sahoro, and more — are compiled with distances to the nearest RV park in our 43 Things You Can Only Do in Winter in Hokkaido article.

The Tokachi-Obihiro Airport store (Moving Inn) is not right next to the airport itself — it is located in Sarabetsu Village. There is free shuttle service from Tokachi-Obihiro Airport. From the airport, it’s about 52 minutes by car to Moving Inn Kitanomori, and about 38-40 minutes toward the Tokachigawa Onsen area.

Obihiro’s January and February Temperatures (Normals)

According to the Japan Meteorological Agency’s normals for Obihiro (1991-2020), January’s average temperature is -6.9°C, with an average high of -1.5°C and an average low of -13.0°C. February averages -5.6°C, with an average high of -0.1°C and an average low of -11.7°C, slightly milder than January. Within the season, mid-to-late January is the coldest period, with temperatures gradually rising through late February.

If you’re using an RV park in winter, whether the site has power directly determines your in-vehicle heating environment. Within what we could confirm, only Wakka no Mori and Kitanomori explicitly state that power remains usable in winter.
