Which Hokkaido Ski Resorts Have Campervan Parking Nearby in Winter? Checking Winter Operation of 9 RV Parks and More at 6 Major Resorts [2026]
During ski season in Hokkaido, the hotels right by the slopes fill up first. People who look at Niseko or Rusutsu and give up because “nothing is available” or “the nightly rate is not what I expected” often turn to a campervan next. In winter, though, things change. Places where you could stay in summer may be closed in winter.
So for six of Hokkaido’s large ski resorts, we checked the winter operation of nine nearby facilities, including RV Parks, one by one against official information (checked on 2026-09-08 and 2026-09-14). Distances are straight-line distances from each resort, and travel times from the airport are measured values from OSRM. The result split clearly into resorts with one place nearby and a resort with nothing at all in winter.
For how to judge whether you may sleep in a ski area parking lot, and for winter equipment such as FF heaters and freeze protection, see the Hokkaido Ski Resort x Campervan Overnight Stay Guide. This article covers only “where you can stay.”
Summary: Resorts With a Winter Place to Stay Nearby, and Resorts Without
| Resort | Nearest place to park | Straight-line distance | Winter operation | Rate | Power |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Niseko Annupuri | RV Park Kutchan | 7km | Open (confirmed) | 2,750 yen | Available at all 17 sites |
| Niseko Annupuri | Kurumatabi Park Pension Locomotion | 7km | Year-round | Winter ski season: 3,000 yen (members) / 4,000 yen (general) + 1,000 yen snow removal fee | 1,000 yen/night (up to 15A) |
| Rusutsu Resort | RV Park Setsugekkaro in Kimobetsu | 5km | Not stated | 1,800 yen | Paid, 500 yen |
| Rusutsu Resort | RV Park Kutchan | 23km | Open (confirmed) | 2,750 yen | Available at all 17 sites |
| Kiroro Resort | RV Park Lite AKAIGAWA TOMO PLAYPARK | 11km | Closed in winter (early November to April 30) | 3,800 yen | — |
| Kiroro Resort | Rural Park Fruit Park Niki | 17km | Closed in winter | 2,500 yen | — |
| Furano Ski Resort | Yu-You Park Spa & Hotel Resort Furano Latelle | 19km | Year-round | Not stated officially | None (generators allowed) |
| Hoshino Resorts Tomamu | RV Park Tokachi Wakka no Mori | 24km | Open (confirmed) | 3,000 yen | Available. Restroom heated year-round |
| Sahoro Resort | RV Park Tokachi Wakka no Mori | 10km | Open (confirmed) | 3,000 yen | Available. Restroom heated year-round |
| Sahoro Resort | RV Park Tokachi Makiba no Ie | 46km | In winter (November to end of February), only the RV Park is open | 3,000 yen | Free up to 500W per site |
Rates are as of 2026-09-02. Winter operation was checked on 2026-09-08 and 2026-09-14 using each facility’s official information or its facility page on the official Kurumatabi site. “Not stated” means an official page exists but says nothing about winter operation. It does not mean the facility is closed.
Kiroro Is the Only Resort With No Winter RV Park Nearby (Both Facilities Closed in Winter)
In the table, Kiroro Resort was the only exception. AKAIGAWA TOMO PLAYPARK, 11km away, is “closed in winter (early November to April 30),” and Rural Park Fruit Park Niki, 17km away, is also closed in winter. Their closed periods overlap exactly with the ski season, so there is no RV Park nearby during the season.
The next closest is a facility in Ishikari City, 29km away in a straight line, and its winter operation could not be confirmed. Realistically, you would have to go down to Otaru or Sapporo. Sapporo has only three RV Parks, and rates and booking methods are summarized in the Sapporo RV Park list. As explained in Where Are the RV Parks in Otaru?, Otaru has no certified facility within the city, and the nearest is the single site in Akaigawa Village, which is the AKAIGAWA TOMO above, so in winter that option disappears too.
If you ski at Kiroro, you have two choices: plan your itinerary on the assumption that you will stay overnight down in Sapporo, or simply book a hotel.
Resort-by-Resort Details
Niseko Annupuri: The Only Area With Two Winter Options
It is 2 hours and 128.2km by car from New Chitose Airport. There are 10 other ski areas within 50km, so it is an easy area to move around on days when runs close because of snow or wind.
The places to park are RV Park Kutchan, 7km away in a straight line, and Kurumatabi Park Pension Locomotion, also 7km away. Locomotion’s official page lists a rate and a snow removal fee specifically for the “winter ski season,” which confirms that it accepts guests in winter. The snow removal fee is 1,000 yen for the stay. At Kutchan, all 17 sites have power, and winter operation is confirmed.
For how to get around the area, see the Niseko Campervan Driving Guide.
Rusutsu Resort: The 5km Option Has No Winter Information
It is 1 hour 18 minutes and 98.0km by car from New Chitose Airport. Of the six resorts here, it is the closest to the airport, and it also has the most other ski areas within 50km, at 13.
The candidate place to park is RV Park Setsugekkaro in Kimobetsu, 5km away in a straight line. At 1,800 yen it is the cheapest of this group, but neither the official site nor the Kurumatabi facility page says anything about winter operation (checked 2026-09-14). The same facility’s riders’ house category states “May to end of October,” but that is a separate category from the RV Park, so it cannot simply be applied here. If you plan to go, call to confirm first.
If you want certainty, choose RV Park Kutchan, 23km away in a straight line. From Rusutsu to Niseko Annupuri it is 43 minutes and 30.5km by car (OSRM measured), so you can also park at Kutchan and ski both.
Kiroro Resort: Nothing Nearby in Winter
It is 1 hour 35 minutes and 107.8km by car from New Chitose Airport. There are many other ski areas within 50km, 13 in all, so it is a good location for chasing snow. As noted above, however, there is no RV Park nearby where you can stay in winter.
Also, Club Med Kiroro Grand on the resort grounds is stated to have 266 rooms in Club Med’s official press release at its opening (opened December 2023). It is one of the few hotels in this survey whose room count could be confirmed officially.
Furano Ski Resort: A Year-Round Hot Spring Facility 19km Away
It is 1 hour 49 minutes and 130.7km by car from New Chitose Airport, and 1 hour 56 minutes from Tokachi-Obihiro Airport. There are 6 other ski areas within 50km.
Yu-You Park “Spa & Hotel Resort Furano Latelle,” 19km away in a straight line, is open year-round. It is a category attached to the hotel’s bathing facility. There is no power hookup, but generators are permitted (no time restrictions). The rate was not stated officially, so please check when you book.
Kurumatabi Park RIJIN HILLS BASE, 23km away in a straight line, operates from “May 22 to October 26, 2026 (planned),” so the ski season falls outside its period. For how to get around the area, see the Furano and Biei Campervan Driving Guide.
Hoshino Resorts Tomamu: One Option 24km Away Is Open in Winter
It is 1 hour 59 minutes and 102.5km by car from New Chitose Airport, and 1 hour 58 minutes from Tokachi-Obihiro Airport, so it is almost equidistant from both airports. There are only 3 other ski areas within 50km, so this is a location where you plan to do all your skiing at Tomamu.
The place to park is RV Park Tokachi Wakka no Mori (Shimizu Town), 24km away in a straight line. Winter operation is confirmed, there is power, the restroom is heated year-round, and the water is groundwater, a set of conditions suited to winter.
Tomamu’s hotels are the only ones in this survey whose total room counts could be confirmed officially. The Tower has 535 rooms and Risonare Tomamu has 200 rooms (both from the Hoshino Resorts official site).
Sahoro Resort: 56 Minutes From Tokachi-Obihiro Airport
It is 56 minutes by car from Tokachi-Obihiro Airport and 2 hours 5 minutes from New Chitose Airport. Of the six resorts here, it is the only one that is far closer to Obihiro than to New Chitose. There are 3 other ski areas within 50km.
RV Park Tokachi Wakka no Mori is 10km away in a straight line, and you can use it under the same conditions as for Tomamu. RV Park Tokachi Makiba no Ie (Ikeda Town), 46km away in a straight line, is open only as an RV Park in winter (November to end of February). Power is free up to 500W per site, but the kitchen area is closed in winter because of freezing. The official seasonal categories are only summer and winter, and March is not mentioned, so check first if you are going in March. Facilities in the Tokachi area are summarized in 4 Certified RV Parks in Obihiro and Tokachi.
Large Resorts Do Not Publish Their Room Counts
We originally started this article as a ranking by capacity, from largest to smallest. We did not make it because the numbers could not be obtained. We went through the official sites of nine hotels at major resorts, and only three stated their total number of rooms (checked 2026-09-14).
| Hotel | Total rooms | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Hoshino Resorts Tomamu The Tower | 535 rooms | Hoshino Resorts official |
| Club Med Kiroro Grand | 266 rooms | Club Med official (December 2023 opening announcement) |
| Risonare Tomamu | 200 rooms | Hoshino Resorts official |
For the rest (Rusutsu, New Furano Prince, Sahoro, Club Med Kiroro Peak, and The Westin Rusutsu), we could not find a total room count on the official pages. Also, in the one case we could cross-check, secondary information was wrong. Club Med Kiroro Grand is commonly said to have 281 rooms, but that figure dates from the period of the earlier, different brand. We should assume the six we could not verify are equally unreliable, so we dropped the idea of ranking them.
Note that Furano Prince Hotel is listed on the official list of closed facilities from Seibu Prince Hotels, and no reopening date has been set (checked 2026-09-14).
Before You Decide Where to Stay
If you want an overview of winter places to stay across Hokkaido, not only near ski areas, see Where Can You Stay Overnight in a Vehicle in Hokkaido in Winter? We Checked 13 RV Parks and Roadside Stations on Their Official Sites, One by One. To compare all facilities in Hokkaido by rate and equipment, the Hokkaido RV Park list has a section at the top called “RV Parks open in winter (December to March).”
Equipment differs by facility category. An RV Park is a certified facility that meets standards for power, restrooms, and waste disposal. An RV Park Lite is a simplified version, a Yu-You Park is a category attached to a bathing facility, and a Kurumatabi Park is a category set up at campgrounds and similar sites. The differences are explained in What Is an RV Park?. All facilities in Hokkaido are summarized in the Hokkaido RV Park list.
Whether you can sleep in a vehicle in winter is largely decided by whether it has an FF heater. How it works and its fuel use are explained in What Is a Campervan FF Heater?. For deciding whether you may sleep in a slope parking lot, the Hokkaido Ski Resort x Campervan Overnight Stay Guide is more detailed, so please see that.
For picking up a vehicle, New Chitose Airport or Sapporo is close for Niseko, Rusutsu, and Kiroro, and Tokachi-Obihiro Airport is close for Sahoro and Tomamu. Differences between airports are covered in Campervan Rental Comparison: Sapporo vs. New Chitose Airport, the Obihiro side in 3 Companies Where You Can Rent a Campervan in Obihiro and Tokachi, and the whole picture in 15 Campervan Rental Companies in Hokkaido.

Summary: Two Winter Places to Park at Niseko, Zero at Kiroro
Of the six large resorts, the ones where we could confirm from official information that you can stay nearby in winter (within 25km in a straight line) are Niseko (2 places), Rusutsu (Kutchan, 23km), Tomamu (Wakka no Mori, 24km), Sahoro (Wakka no Mori, 10km), and Furano (Furano Latelle, 19km). Only at Kiroro are both facilities, at 11km and 17km, closed in winter, leaving no place to stay nearby during the ski season.
Setsugekkaro in Kimobetsu, 5km from Rusutsu, is the cheapest at 1,800 yen, but there is no official information on winter operation. Call to confirm before building it into your itinerary. Operating periods, rates, and power conditions can change, so before you leave, always check the latest details in each facility’s official information.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q1: Where should I stay in winter when skiing at Kiroro?
Because both nearby RV Parks (11km and 17km in a straight line) are closed in winter, you will need to go down to Otaru or Sapporo. Otaru has no certified facility, so in practice the candidates are the three in Sapporo (Sapporo RV Park list). From Kiroro to Sapporo Station it is 50 minutes and 55.1km by car (OSRM measured).
Q2: Can I sleep in a vehicle in a ski area parking lot?
Each ski area handles this differently, so this article does not give a definite answer. Where to look on the official site to decide, how to use paid parking, and the manners to observe are laid out in the Hokkaido Ski Resort x Campervan Overnight Stay Guide.
Q3: Where is the cheapest place to stay?
Among those we checked, RV Park Setsugekkaro in Kimobetsu at 1,800 yen is the cheapest (checked 2026-09-02). However, because winter operation is not stated, you need to confirm with the facility whether it can be used in ski season. Among facilities with confirmed winter operation, RV Park Kutchan at 2,750 yen is the cheapest.
Q4: Is there a separate snow removal fee?
It depends on the facility. Kurumatabi Park Pension Locomotion states on its official page “winter ski season snow removal fee: 1,000 yen for the stay.” For the other facilities, we could not find any mention of a snow removal fee.
Q5: Why are the hotels’ room counts not listed?
Because they are not stated on the official sites. Of the nine we checked, only three published their total room counts. Copying unpublished figures from other sites lets errors creep in, so we list only what we could confirm officially.
Q6: Can I rent a campervan in winter?
Yes. However, winter operating status, winter tires, and whether an FF heater is fitted differ by operator, so you need to check at each pickup location. Operators in Hokkaido are summarized in 15 Campervan Rental Companies in Hokkaido. For the number of people each vehicle type fits and how to load skis and snowboards, see How to Load Skis and Snowboards.

Winter operation was checked on 2026-09-08 and 2026-09-14 on each facility’s official site and on the facility pages of the official Kurumatabi (JRVA) site. Hotel room counts were checked on 2026-09-14 on each company’s official site and official press releases, and anything not stated officially is not listed. Travel times and distances from airports are OSRM measured values, and distances from resorts to facilities are straight-line distances calculated from latitude and longitude. Rates are the published figures of each facility as of 2026-09-02.
