This article uses the 43 on the official rv-park.jp site as the certified count, and labels the sites that appear only in the Kurumatabi club search as “old Kurumatabi list only” (checked 13 October 2026). Visiting in Winter (Dec–Mar)? Check This First: 18 Closed, 37 Open Year-Round

A note before the list: of 60 sites, 18 are closed even if you visit in winter. Car Lynx Naganuma is closed until April 24, Nayoro Onsen Sun Pillar until March 31, and both Oketo Katsuyama Onsen Yu-yu and AKAIGAWA TOMO PLAYPARK until the end of April. Konbumori Banya, Maple Lodge, Agri Kobo Maabu, and Pirika close in November or October, and HAKODATE SHOWA BASE in Hakodate and ZEKKEI BASE CAMP in Muroran are also closed in winter. On the other hand, 37 sites officially state they’re open year-round, and 5 close only partially. The remaining sites have no winter information on their official sites, so they’re not included in this table. None of the sites publish snow-clearing conditions, so always call to confirm during the snowy season.

The Japan RV Association (JRVA) states that the number of certified RV parks nationwide will pass 600 in 2026 (JRVA official site, “What Is an RV Park,” https://www.jrva.com/activity/rvpark/, confirmed July 31, 2026). More of these sites are being added at hot springs, hotels, Michi-no-Eki roadside stations, and even amusement parks each year.

We confirmed 45 RV parks when this article was written (4 August 2026); the latest count is 47 (checked 8 October 2026) on the kurumatabi.com facility search for Hokkaido. The newer official site rv-park.jp lists 43 (checked 13 October 2026), and this article uses 43 as the certified count. This article lists all 43, plus 5 RV parks found only on the old Kurumatabi site, 3 sites that call themselves RV parks but are not on the JRVA list, and 24 non-RV-park overnight-parking facilities — 75 in total. What Is an RV Park in Hokkaido? How It Differs From a Michi-no-Eki or a Campground

An RV park is a campervan-only overnight parking facility certified by the Japan RV Association (JRVA). Unlike an ordinary campground, every certified RV park must meet the following standards:

• A 100V external power hookup at every site
• Clean, 24-hour-accessible restrooms
• Clearly marked pitches sized for at least one vehicle, with posted rates

As unauthorized overnight parking at Michi-no-Eki stations and highway rest areas has become a more visible issue, RV parks have been spreading nationwide as a legal, worry-free place to stay. We couldn’t confirm an official ranking of RV park density by prefecture, but Hokkaido shows 43 JRVA-certified sites on the official rv-park.jp directory — one of the better-served regions in the country.

How It Differs From a Michi-no-Eki

A Michi-no-Eki is a rest facility, and it doesn’t officially permit overnight parking. You can use the restrooms, but at most sites you can’t hook up to power or use a dump station. RV parks, by contrast, are built around overnight stays, so the rules for nighttime use are clear and less likely to bother neighboring residents.

How It Differs From a Campground

A typical campground is designed for tents and barbecues — it may have grassy pitches and a cooking area, but it often lacks the external power hookups (15A, 20A, 30A, and so on) a campervan needs. RV parks are built with campervans as the main guest, so the power specs and pitch sizes are designed around the vehicle.

How to Choose ①: “I Want to Park Right After I Arrive” — Central Hokkaido (30 Sites)

Central Hokkaido, where most rental bases are concentrated, has the richest lineup of well-connected sites — ideal for the night you pick up your camper or the night before you return it. Ebetsu RV Park (20A power, sauna) and RV Park Car Lynx Naganuma (15A, 10m × 10m pitches) are known for their high-quality facilities. RV Park Tabisuruma Shin-Chitose Airport BASE, just 2.8 km from New Chitose Airport and an easy drive from Moving Inn New Chitose Airport, is a popular choice for the first and last nights of a trip. There are no RV parks within the city of Otaru — the closest is RV Park Light AKAIGAWA TOMO PLAYPARK, in neighboring Akaigawa village. Tomakomai has exactly one, RV Park Itoi no Mori, which is the practical option if you’re arriving by ferry and want to pick up your camper the same day.

Northern Hokkaido is where most of the 2025–2026 openings are concentrated. 1. Choose a site and book: Booking methods fall into three patterns depending on the site — phone, a web form, or nap-camp. Small, individually run sites are often phone-only, while nap-camp lets you check availability in real time. In summer (July–August), booking at least a week ahead is safer.
2. Check in: Usually 3–6 p.m. Some sites have no front desk and use unattended check-in. It helps to confirm how you’ll receive the key in advance.
3. Connect your power cable: Once you arrive, plug into the external power hookup. 15A–20A is standard, so bring a compatible cable (10m or longer).
4. Use the facilities: Restrooms are available 24 hours. Sites with a hot spring or shower may charge an extra fee. Check with staff before using the dump station.
5. Check out: Usually 9–10 a.m. Disconnect your power cable, and take your trash with you as a rule. Rinse the dump hose before storing it.

One site, Moving Inn Tokachi Kita-no-Mori, is a whole-site rental RV park; prices vary by date and number of guests (Moving Inn booking page). Because it’s a different kind of stay, we’ve left it out of the price bands above.

Once you know where you are sleeping, the next question is where you collect the van. Picking up at an airport lets you reach your first RV park the same day you land. From New Chitose you can collect at Moving Inn New Chitose Airport or Japan Road Trip New Chitose Airport, and from Tokachi-Obihiro at Moving Inn Tokachi-Obihiro Airport. Compared to campground electric sites (¥1,000–¥2,500), RV parks run a bit higher — but guaranteeing external power at every pitch is the key difference. Sites that bundle hot-spring bathing into the fee (like RV Park Akan Tancho no Sato: ¥1,500 without power, ¥2,000 with power) are especially popular and fill up fast.

Finding a Site by Hot Spring Access or Region

We confirmed a hot spring or bath on-site or immediately adjacent at 30 sites in this article (20 are JRVA-certified RV parks, and 10 are non-RV-park facilities). Look for “Hot spring: Yes” in the amenities column of each area table — see Central, Northern, Eastern, and Southern.

A dump station is equipment for emptying a campervan’s wastewater tank (black water and gray water). What amperage can I use for power?

It varies by site, but 15A–20A is standard at Hokkaido RV parks. Ebetsu RV Park, RV Park Kutchan, and the Michi-no-Eki Biei “Shirogane Birke” site all offer 20A, enough to run the AC and a microwave together. At 15A or less, be careful about running the AC alongside other appliances.

Can I bring a pet?
