Kushiro Tairyo Donpaku (Sep 12–13): Fireworks and a Port Town’s Food

The organizer, Kushiro Tourism and Convention Association, states on its official site: “We have decided to hold the event on Saturday, September 12 through Sunday, September 13, Reiwa 8” (confirmed 2026-08-14).

The highlight is the evening fireworks. The official site describes it as “a fireworks display that brilliantly colors the Kushiro River and Kushiro Port — enjoy the power of Hokkaido’s largest sanjakudama shells alongside a variety of star mines and rapid-fire sequences.” Fireworks run 19:00–19:50 (planned), with the sanjakudama shells expected around 19:30. The concurrent Agriculture and Rural Fair runs 10:00–16:00 on the 12th and 10:00–15:00 on the 13th (confirmed 2026-08-14).

On the other hand, the venue location, access, and parking are not stated on the official site (confirmed 2026-08-14). Details typically appear closer to the event, so check the official site again before you go. Since the fireworks run into the evening, it helps to secure where you’ll sleep that night before heading to the venue, so you’re not scrambling once the show ends.

Kita no Megumi Asahikawa Food Marche (Sep 19–21): Three Days When the Station Front Turns Into One Big Food Court

According to the City of Asahikawa’s official site, the event runs three days, September 19 (Sat) through 21 (Mon, holiday) 2026. Hours run 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (5:00 p.m. on the final day), with the evening zone open until 8:00 p.m. The venue is Asahikawa Station Plaza and Asahikawa Heiwadori Shopping Park (confirmed 2026-08-14).

The venue is the pedestrian mall stretching north from right in front of Asahikawa Station — Asahikawa’s central shopping district itself. Access, parking, and admission fees are not stated on the official site (confirmed 2026-08-14). Don’t assume you can drive a large vehicle right up to a downtown venue; plan to park elsewhere and walk in.

One thing to watch for is the timing. The three-day event falls entirely within the first half of Silver Week, the five-day holiday running September 19–23. Across Hokkaido, campervan and lodging bookings get tight during this stretch, so if you decide to time your trip around the Food Marche, lock in your vehicle and where you’ll sleep first. Kitami Autumn Festival — Okhotsk Marche (Sep 25–27): Yakiniku and Beer in Okhotsk

According to the City of Kitami’s official site, the event runs September 25 (Fri) through 27 (Sun), 2026. Hours are 17:00–20:00 on the 25th, 10:00–20:00 on the 26th (the Station Plaza stays open until 21:00), and 10:00–17:00 on the 27th. The venue spans four locations: the NiCC Culture Hall parking lot, the Kitami Station South multi-purpose plaza, Moco Fudousan Road, and Kitami Station Plaza (confirmed 2026-08-14).

The official site describes food booths showcasing Okhotsk cuisine, an “Oktober Booth” featuring Okhotsk beer alongside beers from across Japan and the world, and a “Kitami Yakiniku” booth celebrating the city’s grilled-meat culture as planned again this year. Chrysanthemum and pumpkin displays, produce booths, and booths aimed at families with small children are also planned (confirmed 2026-08-14; all as-planned wording from the official site). The first day starting on a Friday evening suggests this festival is built around locals heading over after work. For visitors, that leaves a full weekend — Saturday and Sunday — to work with. Building a Touring Plan: Date Order, Kushiro → Asahikawa → Kitami

Lined up by date, it’s Kushiro (Sep 12–13) → Asahikawa (Sep 19–21) → Kitami (Sep 25–27). Doing all three means a trip of just over two weeks, roughly September 12 through 27. Weekdays fall between each festival, and this time of year lets you use exactly those gaps for eastern and northern Hokkaido sightseeing. If two weeks isn’t realistic, focusing on the back half — Asahikawa then Kitami — is more practical. How to Think About Parking and Where to Sleep

As of August 14, 2026, none of the three festivals’ official sites list parking information. Asahikawa and Kitami are both centered on downtown venues that include their station plazas, and Kushiro hasn’t even announced a venue location yet. In other words, there’s currently no basis for planning around “parking the campervan right at the venue.” Traffic controls and parking details sometimes appear on official sites closer to the date, so check again before you leave.

The basic approach is to book an RV park or campsite away from the venue in advance. Coin parking lots in city centers are generally sized for standard cars, many can’t fit a campervan, and parking lots aren’t sleeping facilities to begin with. One more thing: plan around drinking. The Donpaku centers on evening fireworks, and the Kitami festival centers on beer. If there’s even one day you plan to drink, don’t move the vehicle at all that day — walk, take transit, or take a taxi between where you’re parked and the venue. Driving impaired applies the morning after too, if alcohol is still in your system. On days built around fireworks or beer, decide in advance that “the vehicle stays put until it’s out of your system” and you won’t have to improvise.
